IT WAS AMAZING! - Says Students Attending Industry Tour.

“I Had A Great Experience!”

Twelve ALMS students and mentors had the privilege of touring the Bayer Corporation, hosted by Nick Roncoronie and his co-workers, on Thursday, June 19th. The students, ages 17-21, left the event with a renewed sense of encouragement, inspiration, and hope for their future. The career panel, which spent a full hour sharing personal stories of their career journeys, was a particularly enlightening part of the event. Their insights into overcoming doubt and the power of networking left the students feeling informed and ready to take on the world of work. This is one example of how ALMS is offering mentorship programs for young adults.

Here are some of the comments representing all three high schools and WCC:

I had a great experience! I got to meet a lot of amazing people both my age and older than me. It was extremely helpful to be able to hear everyone’s unique experiences and perspectives and see how they got there. It definitely made me feel less scared about being an adult. My favorite part was definitely the career panel. I give this a 5/5!Felicity, CCHS Graduate

The Bayer Corporation was amazing! A total -5- stars! It was super interesting, informative, and accommodating. The labs were my favorite part, as we got to see the individual scientists carrying out their tasks and using the various machines (robots).” Daniel, WCC

I enjoyed the tour and getting to hear success stories from the employees, but would have liked to check inside the labs and greenhouses. It was really insightful though being that it’s a career I was considering potentially getting into. Something I learned was that agriculture is a lot of things and not just the typical farming you see portrayed in media. It’s cell division, mutation, creating lifelong friendships and so on.” Salute, WHS Graduate

I really liked being able to hear about all the different opportunities in research, lab work, and outreach that Bayer provides. The career panel was especially helpful to hear about everyone’s education, their experience, and about jobs that I’d never heard of before. Seeing the facility was also very interesting the labs and how Mary Rose explained some of the machines and procedures helped me understand the importance of biotech and modifying natural plans to produce the most yield and best qualities within our crops. Overall, it was a very enjoyable experience in which I learned a lot about the field of Agricultural research, and bioengineering within our food supplies and how that helps farmers keep up with the large demand of a growing population.” Nidhi, PHS Graduate

Thanks to the Bayer Corporation! If you would like to partner and provide an enriching experience to prepare youth for the adult workforce, contact Jayne Williams through the ALMS Website or (916) 769-5162.

Imagine - the impact of changing the trajectory of just one young person’s life. “We would actually change more than that person because we would have invest in their future - how they chose their spouse, love their children, give to their community, improve their planet – and maybe save the world.”
