Hiring Students From High School With Soft Skills

Since 2015 ALMS has focused on the importance of job readiness soft skills: work ethic, character development and communication skills.

In 2025, ALMS is laser-focused on job readiness within the Woodland Joint Unified School District. Thirty students from Cache Creek High School, Pioneer High School, and Woodland High School will all be completed within three months. That's a remarkable achievement, considering last year's total of 50 students for the year! We are excited to see where these Senior High School students will land their first entry-level jobs, and we hope their success will inspire others.

ALMS is currently seeking businesses who are interested in hiring young people graduating this summer, and may not be immediately college-bound, or who plan to go to Woodland Community College for now.

Our youth are spread out from Oklahoma to Oregon, Mississippi to California - and those are the ones we know about. Their careers are in the medical field to manufacturing, data entry to car detailing, and so much more.

Just last month, we received a call from one of our early students from 2016. She attended Job Corps to obtain a Medical Assistant Certification, which allowed her to work in clinics. After gaining some experience, she aspired to work in a hospital, but many required a BA. Undeterred, she enrolled in a local university with the goal of working with children, inspired by her fond memories of visiting her pediatrician. Her journey is a testament to the impact of our program, and we are proud to have played a part in her drive and grit.

She said, “Ms. Jayne. I have a problem. I’ve been working on my college education, but my job called me into the office today. They have offered to pay for my tuition if I go to nursing school, and I’m not sure what to do?

Generally, we adults would think that this is a no brainer. But for a young woman who graduated from Cache Creek High School, lived in fear from an abusive father, and was only expected to work for her mother at McDonald’s for the rest of her life.. This is a big thing - an unbelievable thing! ALMS is pleased to tell you that she chose to take the full ride.

“That’s your work ethic showing up!" ALMS told her. "No one offers to pay for your schooling without being impressed with your reliability, competence and hard work! ALMS is proud of you. You go girl!"

Imagine - the impact of changing the trajectory of just one young person’s life. “We would actually change more than that person because we would change how they choose their spouse, love their children, invest into their community, improve their planet – and maybe save the world.”
